My comic strip was my character, Shockwing’s, first step toward taking over Earth. She was sent from her home planet to do exactly that. The money has no direct value for Shockwing . All she needs is the power and recognition that comes along with it. Her plan for taking over the world is to take over powerful positions using her lighting power to kill those above her. The comic starts out with Shockwing first coming to Earth. She then locates and kills some high-up workers for the most powerful corporation on the planet. She was made aware of a group of “people” who have vowed to protect the Earth from any opposing power or force that will try to take over, but especially their leader, The Hunter. The Hunter found out where she was and her intentions and got hired by the leader of the corporation as his guard. Her initial plan to kill the leader later on was compromised by this, so she decided to act right then. She managed to kill the leader with lightning, while the Hunter escaped. She now has a lot of power, but she has not reached to goal of a complete take over just yet. She will continue to earn money, get power, and slowly take over the world. During this time she will continue to struggle with The Hunter in more serious situations, but will ultimately take over.
By taking over the most powerful cooperation on the planet, she gained the money from the top position, and the power and respect that come along with both. The comic wasn’t as focused on money itself, as the power that comes along with it. Money, power, and control all go hand in hand. You usually find these things together, especially in a big business like the one in my comic.
Logos communicate with their audiences by using easy to remember and pretty simple designs to advertise a product, company, etc. They are viewed everywhere, on cars, billboards, stickers, bags, and even more places. What logo looks like depends on who the target audience is going to be, and what the logo is advertising or communicating. A logo shouldn’t have a busy design because of all the different sizes it will be viewed in. Detail can get lost in the smaller versions of the logo.
Logos try to communicate usually stores products, and companies/services. They are used to advertise whatever the logo is for. A good logo interests you and catches your attention even if you don’t know exactly what its for.
Certain aspects of a logo can make it a lot more effective. They should have an easy to read font because people won’t be looking at them for long. People will only have a second or two to read and process what the logo is advertising. Effective logos use symbols that convey what they’re advertising. It’s simple and pretty clean. A logo is successful if someone who sees it recognizes what it is almost immediately. You don’t want someone to have to really think to understand the logo.
Be sure to please others, but don’t forget yourself.
In life, you want to make other people happy. It generally makes you happier too, but if you only focus on them, and forget about yourself- you won’t be happy. You can’t forget about your own happiness for the sake of everyone else. Though at times it may be necessary, generally remember this: Be sure to please others. But Don’t. Forget. Yourself.
I remember reading this in a book and it just stuck in my head. It means that people call life difficult, but difficult is a relative term. This is asking what you could possibly be comparing life to. The only answer I see possible would be death, but never having experienced that, it’d be hard to compare. I just found this interesting.
2. Fur coats are worn by beautiful animals and ugly people.
This was told to me by my cousin from Washington. Their family is very concerned with how animals and the Earth are treated. Fur coats belong where they came from, not on people. The people who wear fur coats don’t care about the animals and therefore have ugly personalities.
3. Your life is not your story. Your story is your life.
I heard this phrase from my 8th grade Language Arts teacher. I liked it a lot. It means that we live a story and that becomes our life. Our life doesn’t become our story.
4. Going to a church doesn’t make you any more christian than standing in a garage makes you a car.
This is a slightly lighthearted comment I got from my mother. She was always forced to go to church as a child, but that didn’t make her believe. The comparison between the two is clear.
5. If life ain’t just a joke, then why are we laughing?
These are lyrics I pulled from a song that I absolutely love by My Chemical Romance. It means that if life is so serious and important than why do we take it so lightly?
My experience with Photoshop was overall pretty good. I only ran into a few issues with layer effects. Which was being unable to figure out how to undo it, so I just deleted that layer and restarted it since I wasn’t too far into the project. I enjoyed messing with the opacity, shadowing, and effects the most. I feel like the shadows gave it a nice depth and generally just looked nice. Changing the opacity of a rainbow swirl background gave my artifact a rainbow effect that I really liked, I wish I just had made it a little more translucent.
When it comes to selection tools, I don’t prefer one over the other. It depends on the kind of edge I want for what I’m selecting. If I want a more faded look to it, I use the masking tool because it allows me to select something fully or just lightly. When I want the complete picture nice and clean, I like to use the lasso tool because it’s easy and gets everything I want in the selection.
Something I noticed after printing that I wasn’t too crazy was that the colors were a lot more vibrant on the paper than on the computer. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I work on my next few projects.
Visual culture is art and other visual mediums that exhibit history and culture of the world. It could be anything from a still photograph to a TV commercial or a video clip on the Internet. It helps us understand our society and make sense of it. Visual culture has a great power over everyone, especially today’s youth. Commercials on TV and ads in magazines lead people to buy exactly what they want you to. The media influences so much in our lives, it’s hard to think of a part that isn’t affected by it. The food we eat, the clothes we wear, our hair styles, the music we listen to, even our own thoughts are influenced the slightest bit by visual culture. The culture we show to others through our possessions show our values and tastes. Visual culture has influenced my taste in music because of the music videos I would watch when I was younger. They’re a great example of visual culture because they show current cultural aspects including clothing, and music that is important in our world. Certain items that could be considered visual culture are religious paintings like The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci. That would be visual culture because it exhibits culture through a visual. Other religious works and everyday media that we consume are visual culture. Visual culture is a very necessary thing to understand. It can be used to express ideas beyond words and goes beyond the barriers of language. It shows how culture has changed and methods used to create art have changed. Visual Culture allows us to look past the words and view photos, paintings, and other artifacts in a different and possibly more complex way. Visual Culture is such a huge part of our lives that we have to understand it.
